Getting Haushelden onto your home screen

Then you’re inside that app’s own little built-in browser. It can’t install apps – the option simply isn’t there.

Tap the three dots at the edge and choose “Open in browser” or “Open in Chrome”. Then it’ll work.

No problem – Samsung Internet, Firefox and Edge work too. The menu items are just named differently; there’s a note about that at step 3.

Chrome hides the bar as you scroll down. Swipe up a little and it comes back.

That’s a Chrome setting, and plenty of people use it that way. The three dots are then at the bottom right instead. Nothing else changes.

That’s the older variant and perfectly fine. The difference: “Install app” makes Android create a proper app – it shows up in your app list and opens in its own window with no address bar. “Add to Home screen” sometimes only creates a shortcut.

For everyday use with Haushelden, either is fine.

Three common reasons:

1. Already installed. If it says “Open” instead of “Install”, you’re already done – skip to the last step.

2. Incognito tab. Chrome won’t offer installation in private mode. Open Haushelden in a normal tab.

3. Page hasn’t finished loading. Wait a moment or reload, and the entry appears.

Tap the three lines at the bottom right and choose “Add page to” → “Home screen”.

Samsung Internet often also shows a small install icon right in the address bar – that’s quicker.

It’s in the menu there too: in Firefox as “Add to Home screen” or “Install”, in Edge under “Add to phone” or “Apps”.

No. Nothing is downloaded from the Play Store and nothing is unlocked in the background. Android just creates an icon and remembers the app for offline use.

With “Add to Home screen” yes – the field is editable. With a proper install, Android takes the name as it is.

Yes. Technically nothing happens beyond your browser saving the page and creating an icon. You can remove it at any time like any other app – there’s a note about that at the last step.

Some manufacturers don’t put new apps on the home screen, only in the app drawer – the list you reach by swiping up.

You’ll find Haushelden there. Press and hold the icon and drag it onto your home screen if you want it there.

Then only a shortcut was created rather than a proper install. It hardly matters day to day. If it bothers you: delete the shortcut and try again from step 2, this time going for “Install app” specifically.

Like any app: press and hold the icon and choose “Uninstall” or “Remove”.

That only deletes the app from your device. Your family account and all your tasks stay put – you can always get back in through the browser.

Those apps open links in their own small browser, which can’t put anything on your home screen – the entry is missing entirely there.

Look for the Safari symbol (blue compass) at the bottom, or tap “…” and choose “Open in Safari”.

Newer iOS versions allow this from other browsers too, but the route differs and doesn’t work reliably everywhere.

Easiest is to do it once in Safari. After that, carry on using whatever you prefer.

They’re easy to mix up:

The open book is your bookmarks. The two overlapping squares are your tabs. You want the square with the arrow pointing up – in between those.

Safari shrinks the bar as you scroll. Swipe down a little, or tap right at the bottom edge of the screen, and it expands again.

That’s a different thing, unfortunately: a bookmark lives inside Safari and puts no icon on your home screen.

Just start again from step 2 – and scroll further down this time.

There are three known causes:

1. Private browsing. Safari doesn’t offer it in a private tab. Open Haushelden in a normal tab.

2. Screen Time. If restrictions are active under Settings → Screen Time, the entry can be hidden – this often affects children’s devices.

3. Switched off. Scroll right to the bottom of the list to “Edit Actions”. You can switch “Add to Home Screen” back on there.

You can edit it in the field before tapping “Add”. There isn’t much room under an icon anyway – shorter names read better.

No. Nothing is downloaded from the App Store, your Apple ID isn’t involved, and there are no charges.

iOS puts new icons on the last page of your home screen – so keep swiping left.

If it isn’t there, swipe all the way right into the App Library and search for “Haushelden”.

Then a bookmark was created instead of a web app. Delete the icon and go through again from step 2 – making sure you pick “Add to Home Screen”.

Exactly like an app: press and hold the icon, then “Remove App” and “Delete from Home Screen” or “Delete App”.

Your family account is unaffected.

Firefox on the desktop can’t install web apps. Haushelden works perfectly normally in a tab there – just without its own window and icon.

For the app feel you’ll need Chrome, Edge, or – on a Mac – Safari.

That works too: menu “File” → “Add to Dock”. Haushelden then sits in your Dock as its own application. You can skip the remaining steps here.

Then take the menu route: the three dots at the top right → “Install Haushelden”. In Edge it’s under “Apps” → “Install this site as an app”.

If it says “Open” rather than “Install”, Haushelden is already set up.

On Windows in the Start menu, on a Mac in your Applications folder or Launchpad. You can pin it to the taskbar or Dock from there.

In the Haushelden window, click the three dots at the top right and choose “Uninstall Haushelden”. Or remove it like any other program through your system settings.
